Sandcastle Weekend

Join Texada Islanders for our premier summer community festival — Sandcastle Weekend!

Saturday July 20 and Sunday July 21, 2024!

Designed for family fun and entertainment, activities kick-off Saturday at 11 am with a parade. Both Saturday and Sunday feature a food court, a Legion-run beer garden and vendors surrounding the ball field in Gillies Bay. DJ Dave will be rocking the ballpark, with open mike opportunities for those that want to perform. And there are all kinds of activities for kids at the Kidzone at the Old School in Gillies Bay.

Saturday also has bed races and a Show and Shine, both open to everyone to enter and prizes to be won!! Then it’s on to Shelter Point Park for a LipSync Contest open to all ages — no talent necessary! At dusk hundreds of moonbags bearing personal wishes float out on the tide, and the evening wraps up with a dazzling professional laser light show.

Sunday starts with a Pancake Breakfast at the Texada Community Hall in Gillies Bay then everyone heads to the beach to build sand sculptures and vie for the top prize in age-based categories. Judging is by People’s Choice, so whether you build one or not, get out on the beach and vote for your favourite! The top three teams in each category (Adult, Family, Youth and Children) win cash prizes.

Don’t want to sculpt? Join us at the ballpark for the dog show. It’s open to everyone — bring down your pup to compete in two categories – costume and agility. And the Kidzone will have a bouncy castle! Sunday concludes with awards at the ballpark around 3:30 pm.

Just a note – there are small entry fees for the bedraces, lipsync and the sandcastle competition.

It’s a weekend of community and family fun on Texada Island, where it’s always nice whatever the weather!

We look forward to seeing you!
