Activities Kick-off with a Parade at 11:00am, lead by our Grand Marshall’s Gwen Davies, the RCMP, the Powell River Clansman Pipe Band, kids on decorated bikes, various floats and our local First Responders and Volunteer Fire Fighters in their equipment.
After the parade, Moms and Dads need to keep their eyes open for the FAMILY Zone at the Old School on Gillies Bay Road. It will feature a Wet / Dry Bouncy Castle along with other children’s activities. Do not forget your towels! A parent is required to stay with their child.
Soon after, the Bed Races and the Show and Shine both get started at the Gillies Bay Ball Park, while, the water crowd heads to Gillies Bay Beach to compete and/or watch the Skim Jam Boarding Competition. All these activities are Open to everyone to enter and prizes to be Won!
Just a note: there is a small entry fees for the Bed races, Skim Boarding, Lip-Sync and the Sand Sculpture Competition.
Do you want to look the part? … then get your Texada Island Hand Tie-dyed T-shirts at the Information Booth beside Gillies Bay Ball Park. They come in all sizes and colour combinations … cool man! The Gillies Bay Ball Park will also feature numerous Local Vendors, Food Vendors and a Legion Beer Garden. Great way to spend an afternoon.
Then, as the evening sun sets on the 1st day of Sandcastle, it’s onto Shelter Point Park for the Lip-Sync Contes., Open to all ages — No talent necessary! The evening wraps up with a dazzling professional Laser Light Show, where you can dance the night away!

Starts at 8:00am with a beautiful Sunrise Service at Shelter Point Park. Then, it’s onto the Pancake Breakfast from 8:30am – 11:00am at the Texada Community Hall in Gillies Bay.
At 9:30am, its time for the Competition to start and all the Teams head to the Gillies Bay Beach to Register and Start Building their Sand Sculptures and vie for the top prize in age-based categories. The top three teams in each category (Adult, Family, Teens, Children) win cash prizes.
Sand Sculpture Judging (12:00 – 2:30pm), is by People’s Choice, so whether you build one or not, get out on the beach and vote for your favourite! Voting and Sand Sculpture Building finishes at 2:30pm.
Don’t forget the Most Sand Moved Award is Judged separately, by our own Engineer.
Don’t want to sculpt? Join us at the Gillies Bay Ballpark for the Sandcastle Dog Show. It’s open to everyone — bring down your pup to compete in two categories – costume and agility. It’s fun to watch and cheer on your favorite!
Also, make sure you take time Sunday to check out the Local Vendors, Food Vendors, and the Legion Beer Garden.
Sunday concludes with the Awards at the Gillies Bay Ballpark, approximately 3:30pm’ish.
